Summer Mission Trips 2013

This summer, COF Youth will be heading to Florida City, FL (near Miami) to work with United Methodist mission called Branches. We will be leading their summer camp program for 70+ children.
Florida City is an area that suffers from immigration issues and extreme poverty. 88% of its residents have immigrated from Hispanic countries such as Mexico, El Salvador and Honduras and Caribbean Islands such as Haiti and Jamaica. The average income per household is less than $15,000 and 41% of the families are below the poverty line.
This mission trip will not just be about service, although we will be working hard! The trip will be about connecting with folks who are from very different backgrounds than most of us. The hope is that we will serve them, learn from them and that this will be the beginning of relationships that will last for years to come.
Middle School and High School students will be doing the same type of work, but will attend two separate weeks. Students and who wish to attend the trip will be expected to participate in planning and coordinating the program we will lead the week we are there. Planning will begin mid-April.
Details about costs and deposit dates will be out soon! The dates for the trips are:
Middle School: June 22nd - 29th
High School: July 13th-20th
