Summer Mission Trips 2015 (TBD)
Summer of 2013, COF Youth centered at Florida City, FL (near Miami) to work with United Methodist mission called Branches. We led their summer camp program for 70+ children.
Florida City is an area that suffers from immigration issues and extreme poverty. 88% of its residents have immigrated from Hispanic countries such as Mexico, El Salvador and Honduras and Caribbean Islands such as Haiti and Jamaica. The average income per household is less than $15,000 and 41% of the families are below the poverty line.
This mission trip was not just be about service, although we will worked hard! The trip was about connecting with folks who are from very different backgrounds than most of us. The goal was to serve them, learn from them and that this will be the beginning of relationships that will last for years to come. We believe that this was accomplished and so much more. The kids were committed and worked hard to forge these bonds.
