Transition House
A live-in facility for recurring drug addicts with housing for men, women, and veterans. People who check into The Transition House receive intensive counseling, therapy, and eventually vocational and life-skills training along with food and shelter. Their needs are mainly donations of items, food, and funds to support their many clients. They are also looking for someone to provide a weekly worship service, and for employers and landlords who would be willing to interview and consider for employment or as tenants those who have graduated from the program. We support them with money from our giving baskets. Our contact: Bob Hafer/ 407-846-0068/ 900 E. Vine St, Kissimmee/ No website.
Polk Correctional Institute
They are also in need of mentors for adult men. Mentors spend time with an inmate or group of inmates (all of whom are voluntarily in the program), giving them someone to build a positive relationship with. Mentors help them to grow emotionally and spiritually. Also, we are hoping the facility will give us the go-ahead on a project we are calling “Books Without Barriers.” We would provide books for inmates with children to read on videotape/DVD (also giving them the opportunity to encourage or affirm their children), and mail the tapes and books to their families. Our contact: Chaplain Skipper/ 863-984-2273/ 10800 Evans Rd, Polk City/ http://www.dc.state.fl.us/facilities/region3/580.html.
